MS profile test measures albumin, IgG and oligoclonal band in CSF and serum. MAG antibody is also detected.
MS profile test requires both a blood sample & CSF. For blood sample a tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.

CSF is used in the diagnosis of MS by identifying increased intrathecal IgG synthesis qualitatively (oligoclonal bands). The presence of 2 or more unique CSF oligoclonal bands is one of the diagnostic criteria for MS.
Presence of myeling associated glycoprotein antibody (MAG) is indicative of one of the following conditions: multiple sclerosis, inflammatory neuropathy, motor neuron disease
