Profile has three different tests to detect different types of antibody patterns in patients of myasthenia gravis.
Myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune neurological disease, is characterized by muscle fatigue and inactivity, primarily in voluntary muscles. The Lab Test is to assess levels of abnormal antibodies in the serum of the patient. These abnormal antibodies are responsible for blocking receptor sites of Acetylcholine, a major neurological transmitter. Myasthenia gravis panel detects AChr ,MUSK, ASKA antibodies. Acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibodies—Found in up to 90% of those with generalized MG and about 50% of those with ocular MG,Useful for diagnosis & patient monitoring. Very rare cases AChR antibodies can be found in non-MG patients with other autoimmune disorders or with thymoma . Anti-MuSK (muscle-specific kinase) antibodies—Found in up to 70% of those who are negative for AchR antibodies and have generalized MG. Clinical presentation includes moderate to severe bulbar symptoms.No thymic abnormalities. Anti-Striated muscle antibodies Present in about 70–80%of patients with thymoma and MG Patients who are younger than 40 years, and 30% of adult patients with MG without thymoma and 24% of patients with thymoma without MG.
