A thyroid antibodies panel is a blood test that measures two specific antibodies: thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb). These antibodies are produced by the immune system when it mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland. This test helps diagnose autoimmune thyroid disorders, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis (hypothyroidism) or Graves' disease (hyperthyroidism), by identifying the presence and levels of these antibodies.

The Thyroid gland is butterfly shaped and is situated in throat. The thyroid gland produces Thyroxin T4, Triiodothyronine T3 and are extremely important for normal body functioning and metabolism. TSH, i.e, the thyroid stimulating hormone usually stimulates the thyroid gland to produce t3 and t4. A feedback system usually ensures adequate/optimal level of these hormones in the blood. When a patient’s immune system attacks the thyroid gland or proteins related to thyroid, it leads to inflammation of the thyroid and thyroid antibodies are produced. Thyroid antibodies lead to autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s Disease and Grave’s Disease. Thyroid antibody tests include: • Thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO) • Thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) • Thyroid stimulating hormone receptor antibodies (TSHRAb), including thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) and thyroid binding inhibitory immunoglobulin (TBII)
