This test measures the presence and level of mitochondrial (M2) antibodies in your blood.

• To aid in the diagnosis of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC)
• To confirm or rule out PBC based on the presence and level of mitochondrial (M2) antibodies in your blood
• To evaluate liver function and monitor disease progression in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests

Your doctor may recommend this test if you have symptoms or risk factors associated with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), such as unexplained fatigue, itching, jaundice, or a family history of PBC. This test is also useful for monitoring disease progression and assessing treatment effectiveness for individuals already diagnosed with PBC.

Elevated levels may indicate the presence of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), but further evaluation is needed to confirm the diagnosis.

During this test, your healthcare provider will take a small sample of your blood and send it to a laboratory for testing.
