Leukemia also known as blood cancer occurs due to abnormal growth and mutations of the white blood cells. This mutation majorly occurs in the bone marrow, but may be seen in the peripheral blood as well. Leukemia cells majorly behave like abnormal WBCs or platelets. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) is the type of leukemias associated with bone marrow that occurs mostly in adults and progresses slowly. If not treated early, the prognosis can be poor. Most cases of CLL are associated with genetic mutations. The Leukemia CLL panel uses FISH for genotypic and cytogenetic studies of lymphocytic cells. This helps in further treatment of CLL.
