Metanephrine Level Test - HPLC, 24 hrs Urine

The Metanephrine Test measures the levels of metanephrine in your urine over a 24-hour period.

• To detect and diagnose pheochromocytoma, a rare non-endocrine tumour
• To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for pheochromocytoma
• To monitor other conditions that affect adrenaline and noradrenaline levels

Your doctor may recommend the Metanephrine Test if you have symptoms such as high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, or sweating that could be related to pheochromocytoma. It may also be recommended if you have a family history or genetic risk factors for pheochromocytoma.

Elevated levels of metanephrine may indicate the presence of pheochromocytoma or other conditions that affect adrenaline and noradrenaline levels.

You will be asked to collect all your urine over a 24-hour period in a special container. The sample should be refrigerated until it is brought to the laboratory for testing. The laboratory will use HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) method to measure the levels of metanephrine in your urine.

• Avoid bananas, tea, coffee, and cold drinks for accurate results.
• Your doctor may ask you to stop certain medications that can interfere with the test.
• Inform your doctor if you have any specific requirements.
• Drink plenty of fluids and collect all your urine over a 24-hour period.
• Provide the clinical history and mention the volume of urine collected for calculation purposes.

• Plasma Free Metanephrines: This blood test helps diagnose pheochromocytoma by measuring the levels of free metanephrines in the blood.
• Genetic Testing: In some cases, genetic testing may be recommended to identify specific gene mutations associated with pheochromocytoma.
