IL28 B SNP Genotyping by PCR & Sanger Sequencing

This test measures genetic variants/mutations in the IL28B gene using PCR and sequencing techniques.

• To do the genotyping assay
• To predict how your body would respond to specific therapies for hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment
• To evaluate the risk of developing HCV after receiving a blood transfusion
• To assess the likelihood of developing chronic HCV infection
• To detect spontaneous clearance of HCV by assessing the body's immune response

Your doctor may recommend this test if you have

• Hepatitis C infection,
• liver disease,
• received a blood transfusion or organ transplant before 1992,
• a family history of hepatitis C infection, or
• been exposed to HCV through contact with an infected person or shared needles.

Abnormal results are CT or TT which indicate a reduced ability of the body to fight infections such as HCV.

Your doctor will insert a needle into a vein in your arm to draw blood. They will send the sample to a laboratory for testing.
