CD3 IHC

This test detects the expression of a protein called CD3 on the surface of T cells.

• Help diagnose certain types of lymphoma, including T-cell lymphoma
• Assess the prognosis of lymphoma
• Predict how well a patient will respond to certain types of treatment

• The CD3 IHC test may be recommended for people who have been diagnosed with an enlarged lymph node or other signs or symptoms of lymphoma.
• The test may also be recommended for people who are at high risk of developing lymphoma.

Abnormal CD3 levels could indicate that lymphoma is present. However, abnormal results alone do not provide a definitive diagnosis. Consult your doctor to interpret your results in conjunction with other tests and your medical history.

• A tissue sample will be taken from the affected area and sent to a laboratory for testing.
• A sample of paraffin blocks from a previous biopsy or surgery will be required.
• The laboratory will perform histology and immunohistochemistry (IHC) on the sample to assess CD3 expression.

• Provide the original histopathology report, clinical details, and relevant radiological information.
• Follow any specific instructions provided by your doctor regarding fasting or medication discontinuation.
• Ensure the sample is properly packaged and delivered to the laboratory.

• Flow Cytometry: It helps analyse and identify different types of immune cells based on their characteristics.
• Cytogenetic analysis: This test assesses chromosomal abnormalities in cancer cells, helping with diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Molecular testing: It identifies specific genetic mutations or alterations associated with T cell lymphoma.

T-cell lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). NHL is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's immune system. The lymphatic system helps to fight infection. In T-cell lymphoma, abnormal lymphocytes, which are a type of white blood cell, grow in lymph nodes, which are pea-sized glands found in the neck, groin, armpits, and other parts of the body. There are many different types of T-cell lymphoma:

• Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL): PTCL is the most common type of T-cell lymphoma. It accounts for about 70% of all cases. PTCL can grow in lymph nodes, the skin, the digestive tract, or other parts of the body.
• Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL): ATLL is a rare type of T-cell lymphoma that is more common in people from Japan, Africa, and the Caribbean. ATLL can grow in the blood, lymph nodes, skin, or other parts of the body.
• Sézary syndrome: Sézary syndrome is a rare type of T-cell lymphoma that causes a red, itchy rash on the skin.Sézary syndrome can also cause swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and other symptoms.
• Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG): LYG is a rare type of T-cell lymphoma that causes inflammation and destruction of blood vessels in the lungs. LYG can also cause other symptoms, such as cough, shortness of breath, and weight loss.
