IgG Subclass 2 (IgG2) Serum Test by Nephelometry

The IgG2 serum test measures the levels of IgG subclass 2 antibodies in your blood.

• To evaluate patients with clinical signs and symptoms of humoral immunodeficiency or combined immunodeficiency
• To identify deficiencies or abnormalities in the IgG subclass 2 antibodies, which can affect the body's ability to fight bacterial infections

The IgG2 test may be recommended if

• you have clinical indications such as frequent or severe bacterial infections,
• you are suspected to have humoral immunodeficiency or combined immunodeficiency, or
• you experience recurrent respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, or poor response to vaccinations.

If the test results show lower than normal IgG2 levels, it may indicate an increased susceptibility to bacterial infections. Higher than normal levels could suggest an exaggerated immune response, which may be associated with autoimmune disorders.

A small sample of blood will be drawn from a vein in your arm. The blood sample will be sent to a laboratory for analysis.

• Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking as they might interfere with the test results. Also, tell them if you have any specific requirements.
• Follow your doctor's advice regarding medication adjustments or breaks before the test.

• Total IgG levels: Measures the overall levels of immunoglobulin G in the blood
• IgG Subclass 1, 3, and 4: Measures the levels of other subclasses of IgG antibodies
• Complete Blood Count (CBC): Evaluates different components of blood, including red and white blood cells
