Celiac disease, also known as gluten-sensitive enteropathy, is an autoimmune reaction to eating gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye.

Overview

The syndrome is characterized by a hypersensitivity to gluten resulting in malabsorption, small intestine villi swelling and atrophy, and other symptoms, such as diarrhoea, exhaustion, weight loss, bloating, anaemia and dermatitis.
