Panel Reactive Antibody (PRA) Identification Test (Class II)

The PRA Identification test detects the presence of antibodies in a recipient's blood against specific human leukocyte antigens (HLA) Class II.

• To assess the risk of rejection in organ transplant recipients • To identify suitable donors by checking for matching HLA markers for a successful transplant outcome

The PRA Identification test is recommended for • individuals who are undergoing or planning to undergo organ transplantation or • recipients who have previously received a blood transfusion, pregnant women, and patients with a history of multiple pregnancies or previous organ transplants.

Abnormal results from the PRA Identification test indicate a higher likelihood of rejection during organ transplantation.

During the PRA Identification test, a small amount of blood will be drawn from your arm. The sample will then be sent to the laboratory for analysis.

Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking or any medical conditions you have that may affect the test results. Also, tell them if you have any specific requirements.

Other tests that may be ordered alongside the PRA Identification test include HLA subtyping, crossmatch tests, and compatibility testing to further evaluate the compatibility between an organ donor and recipient.
