Factor VIII Activity, Anti-Haemophilia Factor A

This test measures the activity of Factor VIII, a protein involved in blood clotting. It helps determine Factor VIII in your blood to diagnose and monitor bleeding disorders like Hemophilia A.

• To diagnose and monitor Hemophilia A, a genetic disorder causing abnormal blood clotting due to low levels or dysfunctional Factor VIII.
• To assess the effectiveness of treatment for Hemophilia A.
• To evaluate bleeding disorders or conditions that affect blood clotting.

Your doctor may recommend this test if you:

• Have a family history of Hemophilia A or other bleeding disorders
• Experience excessive bleeding or prolonged bleeding after injury, surgery, or dental procedures
• Have unexplained bruising or frequent nosebleeds
• Are being treated for Hemophilia A to monitor the response to therapy

The normal range for Factor VIII activity is 50-150%. Abnormal test results may indicate a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia A or other conditions affecting blood clotting. However, abnormal results do not necessarily mean you have a serious condition. Your doctor will interpret the results in the context of your medical history and other diagnostic tests.

• A blood sample will be taken from your vein.
• The sample will be sent to the laboratory for analysis.
• The test is quick and relatively painless, but you may experience slight discomfort during blood collection.
• Wear loose-fitting clothes to make the process easier.
