Phospholipid disorders are coagulation disorders of autoimmune origin that may lead to venous or arterial anomalies like thrombosis, or adverse pregnancy outcomes like miscarriages, pre-term delivery, pre-eclampsia etc. Phospholipid syndrome profile includes various tests to detect antibodies against blood coagulants.

Frequently Asked Questions
Phospholipid Syndrome Profile includes tests to measure Lupus Anticoagulant, Cardiolipin Antibody IgG/IgM, Beta 2 glycoprotein IgG, and IgM.
The test is done to diagnose and detect causes for:
- Coagulation disorders like thrombosis.
- Failed pregnancies or spontaneous abortions
- Pre-term delivery, and pre-eclampsia.
- Autoimmune disorders like SLE.
- Patients experiencing consecutive spontaneous abortions.
- Patients having difficulty conceiving or experiencing multiple failed pregnancies.
- Women having difficulty in the current or previous pregnancy; like foetal growth retardation, early neonatal deaths, stillborn.
- Patients at risk for pre-eclampsia or pre-term delivery.
- Patients with coagulation disorders like thrombophilia.
This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.
No special precautions.
LAC test
Abnormal APTT levels and presence of Lupus anti-coagulant antibody may occur in cases of recurrent abortions. The results may be transient and persisting.
Cardiolipin AntibodyACL- IgG and Ig M
Anti-cardiolipin antibodies (ACA) and are associated with thrombotic states and can cause recurrent abortions and infertility.
Beta 2 glycoprotein IgG
Presence of IgG antibodies are considered as an independent risk factor for thrombosis and pregnancy complications. Persistent positive test spaced at least 12 weeks apart is significant for Anti Phospholipid Syndrome diagnosis.
Beta 2 glycoprotein IgM
Presence of IgM antibodies are considered as an independent risk factor for thrombosis and pregnancy complications. Persistent positive test spaced at least 12 weeks apart is significant for Anti Phospholipid Syndrome diagnosis.
- Lupus Anticoagulant
- Cardiolipin Antibody IgG
- Cardiolipin Antibody IgM
- Beta 2 glycoprotein IgG
- Beta 2 glycoprotein IgM
Anti-cardiolipin antibodies (ACA) and are associated with thrombotic states and can cause recurrent abortions and infertility.
Lupus anticoagulants are antibodies detected that are associated with a thrombotic tendency and clinical states such as recurrent abortions. Their presence may be persistent or transiting.
Antiphospholipid antibodies(APA) are important in the etiology of recurrent thrombosis & pregnancy loss in patients with Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome(APS). Beta-2- glycoprotein is one of the plasma binding proteins useful in regulating the intrinsic coagulation pathway. Beta 2 glycoprotein IgG and IgM are considered as an independent risk factor for thrombosis and pregnancy complications.
