Allergy - Mold Panel

• The Allergy Mold Panel is done to determine if your body has an allergic reaction to specific types of mold commonly found indoors and outdoors.

The Allergy - Mold Panel measures the presence and levels of specific IgE antibodies in your blood that are produced in response to 5 mold allergens:

1. Penicillium notatum
2. Cladosporium herbarum
3. Aspergillus fumigatus
4. Candida albicans
5. Alternaria tenuis (also known as Alternaria alternata)

The overall level of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in the blood is also measured. 

The test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer. 

Positive result to an allergen indicates that the person is allergic to it. Increased IgE levels further confirms that. The further treatment course is decided based on the results. Based on the symptom, age, environmental allergens, and region wise allergens further testing may be required for specific diagnosis. 

Negative result may require other tests for differential diagnosis.

No specific preparation is required for this test. However, it is important to inform your healthcare provider about your current medications. Additionally, you may keep a record of your symptoms as well as the potential exposures that may have caused them.

The Allergy-Mould 2 Panel test can provide information about allergies caused by fungi. It cannot detect food allergies or other types of allergies.
