HDV-IgM Antibody by EIA - Serum

This test measures the presence of HDV-IgM antibodies in your blood that indicate acute infection with the Hepatitis D Virus.

• To detect and confirm an acute Hepatitis D Virus infection
• To rule out other causes of liver inflammation
• To assess the effectiveness of treatment for Hepatitis D Virus infection

Your doctor might recommend this test if you have

• symptoms suggestive of an acute Hepatitis D Virus infection, such as yellowing of the skin, dark urine, abdominal pain, fever
• a previous diagnosis of chronic Hepatitis B Virus infection, since HDV can only infect people who are already infected with HBV
• high-risk factors for HBV infection, such as past intravenous drug use, unprotected sex with multiple partners, and living with someone with chronic HBV infection.

If you test positive for HDV-IgM antibodies, it indicates that you have an acute Hepatitis D Virus infection. If you test negative for HDV-IgM antibodies, it suggests that you are not infected with the virus.

The blood sample is collected by a trained technician from a vein in your arm using a needle. It is then sent to a laboratory for testing.

Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking, any allergies you have, any bleeding or clotting disorder, or if you have had a blood transfusion lately. Also, let them know if you have any specific requirements.

Acute Hepatitis D Virus Serology or HDV-IgM Detection Test

Hepatitis D Virus is a virus that infects the liver and can cause acute and chronic hepatitis. HDV is only found in people who are already infected with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), as it requires HBV to replicate.
